How do you search for a property not for sale?

I am wanting to look at a property that isnt for sale, but am interested in making an offer to buy it. Is there a site online that i can find out info on houses that arent for sale? thanksHow do you search for a property not for sale?
When I was a kid back in the 1950's my dad spent a whole day talking a farmer into selling a 13 acre place to him. It was not for sale but my dad talked him into it.

Dad said he got the place but he said it is the most expensive way to buy a property. Think about it- if you are happy in a house and some guy comes up wanting to buy it--he better offer a great price! How do you search for a property not for sale?
If you know the address, then write a very nice professional letter letting the homeowner know that you are interested in purchasing it and would like to see it for the purposes of making an offer.

Sometimes, it would suprise you.

I actually purchased a house for myself that way once that I fell in love with that wasn't on the market.
Hi,

Check the local property appraisers office or website. This information is in public records. Almost always, you can look a property up by its address. Different counties have different information in their listings. Usually they include the owners name and address. price they paid for the house, square footage of the house, taxes and lot size. I start all my searches with the county property appraisers site.

Go to your county's website and see if they have an online GIS or tax map database, and you should be able to search for the property there. It will give you the current owner's mailing address, and you can contact them that way.

If it's not online, you can find out the same thing through the county tax office or register of deeds by looking at tax maps.
There are plenty of websites that you can use to check up information on the house. I recommend you go to www.InvestInUglyHomes.com and buy the materials there because they are loaded with the kind of information you need.
