I love British movies, some not for sale in the US. What is this region 2 business?

Do I have to buy a dvd player from Europe?I love British movies, some not for sale in the US. What is this region 2 business?
I believe that what you want is a PAL compliant DVD player. I am a Lovejoy fan and bought Brittish Lovejoy DVDs knowing I had to have a Brit compliant player. My portable DVD player plays them fine, as does my laptop. Check out websites of manufacturers. I suggest OPPO. Call and ask if it will play your DVDs to be sure, but specs say it is PAL/NTSC compliant, which, as I understand it, means it plays both US (NTSC) and Brittish (PAL).I love British movies, some not for sale in the US. All you need is a multi-region/multi-format DVD player. Here is a link as an example http://www.world-import.com/index.htm

Do a search on google and you'll find more. I do the same thing you want to do but with french movies.
Yeah, America's Region 1 and 1 and 2 are not compatible. Although I can't say for sure whether a European DVD player would be compatible with an American TV, that would be the only way to play a region 2 dvd..... or on computers maybe??
I bought a Pioneer dv-270 and its able to handle every code and region including pal and ntsc regardless the TV type. It also works 120/240 voltage
